Functions
Windows XP
Mac os
 machine and peripheral management
On windows you can access your peripherals through the my computer page and this makes it very easy to find them and see how much space they have
On mac the peripherals will show up on your desktop and you will be able to see them but you will have to click on properties to see how much space they have remaining

security
On windows you have the windows essentials pack that is very good for protecting your computer and informing you what is wrong and you can still use the popular anti-viral software such as Norton
On mac you can have any of the popular anti-viral software and that can protect you the same as it would on pc so you can have the same protection on both

file management
I personally prefer the file management on pc because I find it is very easy to use and how you can have access to all of you files through the my computer panel that I find is more accessible to use than the macs finder and you can have your files on your desktop
The mac has the finder that lets you have access to all of your files and through this you can get to your folders and sub folders with ease and you still have the option to have your files on your desktop also

device drivers
the device drivers can update when new hardware is connected such as a keyboard
on mac the device drivers needed has to be the mac os drivers so they can sometimes be a bit harder to find

 features
Windows XP
Mac os
ability to customize
On pc you have the option to full customise your computer with ease because they have been made so they are easy to open and most of the parts can be unplugged and a now piece of hardware can be plugged
The Mac can be customised but it is a lot harder to do so it is more of a specialist job so you will have to put it into the shop most likely if you wanted the ram to be increased or a bigger hard drive

Assessment and grading criteria
P5 set up a standalone computer system, installing hardware and software components [SM3]

For P5, learners must install at least one hardware and one software component in a stand-alone system.
This is best evidenced with a witness statement or observation record and screen shots. Learners must use suitable safety equipment/tools and pay due regard to health and safety issues.

How the activity meets the requirements of the assessment and grading criteria,
including how and where the activity took place

Describe how your peer achieved the above criteria; explain where you witnessed the activity.

I witnessed Liam complete the first three at the start of the lesson and he used the usb inputs in the back of the computer.
He explained that the graphics card had to be behind the VGA input so it connects properly.
Installing MS office and essentials was easily achieved as he went onto the Microsoft website to download Microsoft essentials.
He then continued to download office off a memory stick.
After all the downloads he then created a user account on the computer by opening control panel then selected user accounts and then from there created a new account.
Then Sven made software’s like Microsoft PowerPoint and ect easy to access through making desk top access points.
Then created new files on his desktop then was able to name the file and continue to be other files and documents in that file.
